At 5:30am the buffaloes are already shifting in the courtyard and someone has opened the trough line because animals do not wait for tea. On the roof the household tank is still a drum with a hollow knock. Same ferrule, same short supply hour, two hungry pipes. In a Shekhawati home this fight is older than the plastic tank. The animals will drink. The kitchen will lose unless you split the minute on purpose.
A dry trough in May is cruel. An empty kitchen tank is also a bad day. The connection will feed whichever valve is open.
Checks on the pipes you already have
Trace the line from the meter or the ferrule with your eyes. Does it split to the trough before it climbs to the tank? If the trough is the first open tap, the roof will starve while pressure is weak. That is physics, not a family insult.
See whether both outlets are open every morning as a habit. A habit is not a plan. Close one while the other fills.
Check for leaks at the trough valve. A dripping animal line all night can empty a tank that filled at 2am. Cattle fittings get kicked. Washers die.
Look at trough height and overflow. A trough that overflows into the drain is the same waste as a roof float failure, only dustier.
If you lift to the roof with a motor, see whether the motor suction can still see water when the trough is filling. A motor that sucks air because the courtyard tap is wide open will heat up and die. Do not “let both run.”
Count litres. A buffalo is not a glass of water. If three animals drink more than the kitchen in the same hour, the household tank will always lose a simultaneous fill. You need sequence, extra storage, or a second fill from a tanker drum that is marked for animals.

Complaint path when the fight leaves the courtyard
If the problem is only sequence inside your premises, there is no PHED ticket. Fit valves. Agree times. The subdivision will not referee a buffalo.
If pressure is dead because of a public leak, treat that as a leak complaint with photos, separate from the cattle story. Mixing “our trough is dry” into a road-leak ticket confuses the clerk.
If the board objects to the load on a domestic connection, that is an official conversation at the office with the bill in hand. Carry photos of the setup. Ask what they permit. Do not ask this website to invent a second connection.

Approximate INR rates that change by ward

Extra tanker litres for cattle in summer are simply more litres. If a house tanker is Rs 1,200, animals may be another fraction of that, not a free add-on. Agree it in the family before the driver arrives.
A mason to raise a trough so it does not waste overflow might be Rs 500 to Rs 2,000. These numbers move by ward and by May. Confirm at the counter.

If drinking and cooking stores are empty, the house tank gets a short timed fill first. Then the trough. If the house still has yesterday’s drinking water, animals can go first for a set number of minutes. The mistake is leaving both open. Pick a sequence and put a phone alarm on it for the supply hour.
Can we fit a bigger pipe to the trough so it fills faster?
A bigger trough pipe on a weak hour steals even more from the roof. Faster for animals is slower for the kitchen unless you sequence. A valve and a clock beat a fatter pipe.
The motor trips when the trough is open.
You may be dropping suction pressure or starving the pump. Close the trough while the motor lifts to the roof. Fill the trough by gravity from the tank later, or from a drum, or in a second session if the line still runs. A tripped motor in May is a long wait at the electrician.
